Types of Heaters

Central air conditioners: These cool the entire home or building through a single, centralized system.

  1. Heat Pump Split-system central air conditioners: These consist of an indoor unit (furnace or air handler ) and an outdoor unit (condenser) that are connected by a conduit. These can be used to heat and cool by just reversing the flow of refrigerant.
  2. Gas packaged central air conditioners: These are all-in-one units that contain both the air handler and the condenser in one package. They can be installed on a roof, on the ground, or in a mechanical room. The have a gas connections so natural gas can be used to heat a house or building.

Ductless mini-split air conditioners: These consist of an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units that are connected by a small conduit. They reverse the refrigerant flow in order to provide heating in the winter, the same as a heat pump setup.

Issues with Heaters

  1. Lack of maintenance: Neglecting regular maintenance can cause a range of problems, from reduced efficiency to complete system failure.
  2. Gas furnace breaks downs from ignitors, to valves and pressure issues.
  3. Refrigerant leaks: Leaks in the refrigerant line can cause the system to perform poorly and eventually stop working altogether.
  4. Dirty filters: Dirty or clogged air filters reduce the efficiency of the AC system and can cause it to work harder, which can increase energy bills and shorten the lifespan of the unit.
  5. Thermostat problems: A faulty or outdated thermostat can cause the AC system to shut off or run continuously, leading to higher energy bills and reduced comfort.
  6. Electrical problems: Wiring and electrical component issues can cause the AC system to stop working or perform poorly.
  7. Compressor problems: The compressor is the heart of the AC system and any issues with it can lead to poor performance or system failure.
  8. Drainage issues: Clogged or misaligned drain lines can cause water damage and affect the performance of the AC system.
